Wellbutrin for ADHD
and Aspergers Syndrome?

Wellbutrin is an atypical antidepressant that has been used to treat ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome..

Wellbutrin (bupropion) and Wellbutrin SR have been used in an off-label capacity (not specifically approved for, but observed to be effective) to treat ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome. Wellbutrin is also sold under the brand name Zyban to help stop the urge to smoke.

Wellbutrin has a chemical structure unrelated to any other antidepressant medication. Unlike some of the other recently developed antidepressants (i.e., Celexa, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft) that target the brain chemical serotonin, Wellbutrin does not affect serotonin. Although its exact effects are not known for sure, it may act on the neuro-transmitters dopamine and norepinephrine.

Side Effects

Fewer sexual side effects and weight gain are associated with Wellbutrin than other antidepressants.  There are also fewer reports of blurred vision, dry mouth, indigestion, constipation, cardiac problems, and orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure occurring after standing up).

However, Wellbutrin has also been linked to the following side effects:

Seizures (see below for drug interaction warnings), Restlessness, Insomnia, Headache or worsening of preexisting migraine conditions, Tremor, Dry Mouth, Agitation, Confusion, Rapid Heartbeat, Hyperactivity, Dizziness, Nausea, Menstrual Complaints, Rash

Because of the risk of seizure, the approval of Wellbutrin was temporarily delayed to examine this risk and since it has been on the market, there have been numerous lawsuits filed against the manufacturer by patients and their families as the result of these dangerous side effects.

Drug Interaction Warnings:

1. Zyban - they contain the same active ingredient, which could cause seizures if too much is taken.
2. Anticonvulsant medications Dilantin (phenytoin), Tegretol (carbamazepine), or phenobarbital
3. Ulcer medication Tagamet (cimetidine)
4. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
5. Withdrawal from alcohol or some street drugs while taking Wellbutrin can increase the chance of having seizure.

There is a highly effective treatment alternative to Wellbutrin

For over 35 years I have worked with ADHD children and their families. Having been an  ADHD child myself, I have a personal interest in this area.

Current explanations of the disorder never fit my experience or the children I saw. It always seemed contradictory that children who could not attend to school work could play computer games for hours, though both activities use the same areas of the brain. This stimulated years of  research and rethinking  of ADHD theory and treatment.  From this I developed my new (patented) and highly effective, drug free, Computer Aided Emotional Restructuring (CAER) treatment  and wrote my book, ADHD: A Path to Success to explain it. Learn how ADHD is not a defect, deficit or a disorder, but a highly skilled short-term defense mechanism that backfires in the long-run. Read more than 40 Amazon.com “customer reviews” of my book and treatment.   The most typical response when people read the book is “That makes so much more sense than anything else I have read”, “You describe my child exactly”.

It will empower you  an optimistic lens that will forever change how you see your child and his problems.
